MURRIETA ---- If you were thinking about dusting off that old Schwinn and jumping into the fray at next weekend's Tour de Murrieta, you should know the competition has jumped up a notch.
The event, which starts Friday and wraps up March 11, is now one of six contests in the Nature Valley Pro Chase. What that means is, the top scorer from each of those six races will form the Nature Valley Cycling Team and compete in the 14th annual Nature Valley Grand Prix in mid-June.
"These events have become known as 'American Idol' cycling," said Tour de Murrieta technical director and founder, Ernie Sanchez. "This event is the only one in California, and it's going to bring even more quality cyclists to the event."
