Q: Do they sell a solid adapter I can install in place of the monoshock? There's a really good deal on a full suspension bike with nice components.

A: The problem with your idea is that you'll still be stuck with all of the heavy linkages and frame pieces of a full suspension bike.

You could very easily make your own spacer or have a welder make one up of 2 steel spacers the correct length

Novice buying a mountain bike on a budget – advice please!?

I’d like to buy a mountain bike that will be suitable for the occasional (and sometimes intense) off-road use (eg, Dalby Forest), and general road use. I’m on a tight budget (£ 300 – £ 400 max) and know very little about mountain bikes. You will be able to find a nice bike in that range. Find local bicycle shops in your area and pay them a visit they’ll all be the same for a given price range. You wont find a bike shop that you can buy on line quality. Look for the cross country bike with universal tires. Mountain Bikes Suck on hard surfaces when you use knobbie tires.

Merida's 2012 mountain bikes - First look

Taiwanese bike company Merida launched its 2012 range this week on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Head of bicycle design Jurgen Falke took centre stage to unveil the company's new mountain bikes, including an updated trail bike, a new enduro rig and a headline 29er full suspension cross country racer.

Big Ninety-Nine

Making the most waves was the Big Ninety-Nine 29er, which aims to build on the success of the 26in Ninety-Nine and offer cross country and marathon racers a big-wheeled alternative. An aluminum prototype was on show at the launch; the bike is ride-able and undergoing final tweaks before the final carbon production version, which the Multivan Merida Biking Team is helping to develop, is launched in time for 2013.
