Q: I am going to buy a suzuki 4 stroke motor for my 9 foot aluminum duck boat. They have a 2.5 hp for $650 or a 4 hp for $980. The 2.5 weighs like 35 lbs, the 4 hp weighs 55 lbs. I'm not sure if the 2.5 will be enough. I've never had a boat motor before.
A: It's the horse power rating you need to be concerned about. Look on the transom. You will find a tag that the Coast Guard rates your vessel at. It will have maximum horse power, number of persons, weight, etc. That's what I would go off of.
