Q: My boyfriend likes braided line a lot, but it is pretty expensive. I was wondering if it would be about the same if you actually braided single line together. Would it be as strong, or would it be a waste of time?

A: It would end up expensive. Also, it would knot easily as monofilament and fluorocarbon line have a lot of memory becasue they stretch. Braided line does not and you feel the bite right and fish better. Braided line last longer though and doesn't break

...Braided and fluorocarbon lines sink. Monofilament floats or sinks a lot slower. I keep a couple of spinning rods spooled with 6 and 14 pound mono to cast topwater lures, but I use a 3-4 foot length of fluorocarbon as a leader.
Monofilament also stretches a lot, as much as 15 percent. That greatly reduces the strain on the line and rod when trolling, especially in rough water, or fishing for salmon in a river. And it works well for crankbaits.
