I think both have their place. it depends on what your fishing with, and what your fishing for. stripers live bait or cut bait, i think circle hooks work great. sharking, ive never gut hooked a shark with a j hook they work great and i prefer them for sharks. trolling lures or lure bait combo use j hooks, bait and switch - circle hook. flounder - circle hook will gut hook em.
