JUPITER, Fla. — In his first time facing hitters at major league spring training, young righthander Tyrell Jenkins was irked by a changeup he left up in the zone and expressed his frustrations by slapping his glove.
Manager Mike Matheny stopped him right there.
Chris Carpenter “does that, that’s intensity,” Matheny explained. “You do that, that’s you being 19. There’s a big difference there. Slow down and breath. ... These guys know how young you are. Just make sure you’re not acting like it.”
