How do you clean cams (climbing gear)?

Q: I have a set of cams that are still working properly but they are pretty dirty. There's lots of dirt/dust stuck in the lubricated joints. So my questions are
1) How should I clean them without degrading them in any way and
2) once they

A: I just wipe cams with a dry cloth and use a lubricant that will not attract any more dirt (like a dry lube spray) to clean and lube the actual joints always wiping off any extra.
