A: The guides will typically recommend double plastic boots on Rainier, primarily because they are warmer and easier to keep dry on overnights, but I don't know of any plastics that are semi-automatic (heel bail/ toe strap) like you mentioned.
What configuration is ideal for ski mountaineering?
I am a climber, but seeks to enter the ski-mountaineering or at least be able skis to be used for skinning or descent. However, I've never skied before anyone. I would be able to use them to a variety of things, such as downhill (moderate angle), the counting of roads, glacier travel, etc. What kind of skis, and how long should I look? What type of fasteners should I? I'd be able to use my mountain boots with skis, but if it is not possible, I would willing to settle with ski boots that are intended for climbing as well. Looking for any recommendations …
