Baseball's mega-deal madness

Major League Baseball owners have rebounded quite nicely from the nation's economic recession, embarking on back-to-back winter spending sprees for the ages.
A year ago, before the 2011 season, six player contracts of at least $100 million were signed, an all-time offseason high. Owners have handed out five more such contracts since the end of last season, and the total is six if you count the posting fee and contract the Rangers paid to Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish.
That means 11 of the 33 $100 million-plus contracts in baseball history have been signed since the end of the 2010 season. Free agents Albert Pujols and Prince Fielder both signed $200 million deals this winter to join an exclusive salary fraternity in which Alex Rodriguez was previously the lone member.
